Zapovedniks (strict nature reserves)

As their name indicates, these areas have strict conservation regimes with minimum human interference. They are not open to usual forms of recreation and tourism, only scientific and ecotourist expeditions are permissible. Any visitor to a zapovednik needs a special entry permit and to be accompanied by an authorized guide (usually a member of the zapovednik’s staff). Unauthorized entry (trespass) and any form of activity inside the protected area are strictly forbidden and are treated as serious offence in the Russian law. The same restrictions and prohibitions as in the national parks apply.

Always follow the specific instructions provided by individual zapovednik’s directorates.
